Entry Requirements

All candidates must have achieved a Level 4 [Grade C on the old system] in GCSE English and maths or an equivalent qualification.  Primary candidates must also have GCSE grade 4/C or above in science or an equivalent qualification.

The Fylde Coast SCITT offer equivalency tests in English, maths and science at a cost of £50 each. However, we are unable to offer a revision package.

All candidates must hold an undergraduate degree awarded by a higher education provider in England or Wales (or a recognised equivalent qualification), ideally in a subject relating to their chosen specialism for secondary.  If your degree is not in a related subject you may be required to complete a Subject Knowledge Enhancement (SKE) course.  A Levels are preferred but not essential.

We also welcome applicants who are in the final year of their degree and can offer conditional placements, dependent on successful completion of degree or any other pending qualifications.

All offers made will be subject to an enhanced DBS check and a health and capacity to teach check.

Finance

The tuition fees for our programmes are £7,705 (QTS only) or £9,250 (QTS with PGCE).  All our programmes are unsalaried, however, you will be able to apply for a tuition fee and maintenance loan from Student Finance England and you may also be entitled to a tax-free bursary.  Information about funding your training can be found on the Department for Education website.

When you’re ready, start your application via Apply.

Qualifications upon Successful Completion of the Programme

At the end of the SCITT programme you will gain Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) which enables you to teach at primary, secondary and post 16.  If you wish to complete the PGCE, you can do this alongside the QTS with our partners, Sheffield Hallam University, and their trainers will visit you for face-to-face sessions here so there’s no need to travel. Further information will be provided at assessment.

For general information about eligibility criteria, routes into teaching, gaining school experience, etc., please visit the Department for Education website. You can also search for providers using the search tool here.
